What We Look For

First things first, all applicants must be undergraduates at The George Washington University. There is a graduate consulting club that caters to graduate students.

Our members come from diverse backgrounds, both academically and professionally. There is no "right" major or academic path to be eligible to join the UCG. However, our members do share a common quality of excellence in aptitude, passion, and drive.

Applications are posted on Google Forms sheets. The link to the most recent application can be found under the “Apply” tab.

When we review applications, we consider one’s college GPA, strength of resume, and the application short-response questions. Demonstrated interest (attending an info session or reaching out to network with an e-board member) is taken into account as a bonus to an application. People have busy schedules, and thus no one’s application will be negatively viewed if they don’t do either one of those things.

In regards to academics, our members generally have grade point averages in the 3.6-4.0 range, but we do not accept or deny any application solely based on one’s GPA. First-semester freshman applicants do not have to list a GPA, but if you have a record of achievement (high GPA, AP, SAT scores, etc.) in high school that you are particularly proud of, feel free to note that.

All applicants must submit a resume. Your submitted resume does not have to be perfect - one of the reasons we exist is to help you make your resume better - but it should be formatted professionally and devoid of basic errors. An example of a basic error is spelling the name of our university wrong. If you do not have work experience yet, you can list extracurricular activities that you have partaken in at either the high school or collegiate level. Additionally, if you have accepted an offer to intern or work somewhere in the future, you may list that.

The short-response questions are a great way for your application reader to get to know more about you. Thus, it is in your best interest to put effort into these. These responses do not have to be long answers: generally, we ask for no less than one paragraph and no more than three paragraphs for each question. Additionally, the questions are very open-ended, so there will be no shortage of subject matter to write about. They will not take a significant amount of time to write.
